Brendan Rodgers has clarified the reason behind Kieran Tierney’s substitution in the second half of Celtic’s opening day clash with St Mirren this afternoon.

Fans feared that an injury may be at play, when the saw the full back walking off shortly after the hour mark, particularly when slightly grimacing and clutching his thigh. Chris Sutton even remarked, during his Sky Sports commentary, that he hoped there wasn’t an ongoing injury involved there.

Those fears are now put to bed as Rodgers confirmed the problem was simply cramp. Speaking to BBC Sportound, Rodgers said: “He’s fine, he is still gaining his fitness, Kieran.

“He hasn’t played a lot of football in the last few years so we have to manage him in the games.”

KT was very impressive in his hour long appearance, at both ends of the park. He beat his opposite number on several occasions going forward and delivered countless dangerous crosses. Meanwhile, he was solid in defence.

Let’s hope he stays fit for the crucial games ahead.
