No Goldson as Souttar starts: predicted Rangers XI v Aris

With Scott Wright’s injury adding to Rangers’ current woes of selection, manager Philippe Clement has a real lack of depth to pick from when Cypriots Aris Limassol arrive in Govan.

With no Leon Balogun, Ridvan Yilmaz, Nico Raskin, Ryan Jack, Scott Wright or, likely, Kemar Roofe, the Belgian’s options are very limited thanks to Mick Beale’s abysmal management.

So, what will he go for?

Well, in defence, it’s Tavernier, Souttar or Davies and Barisic. That’s it. Goldson’s suspension means the defence is down to five players, the other option being Dujon Sterling.

In midfield there’s only John Lundstram and Jose Cifuentes. So that picks itself.

Attacking three is where we see an uneven amount of depth. Ross McCausland, Todd Cantwell, Abdallah Sima, Rabbi Matondo, Sam Lammers and Tom Lawrence (plus what should be Roofe and Wright) is just completely stupid for three positions.

We must admit it’s a toss up which three of those ones fit will get the nod.

And up front it’s either Danilo or Dessers. Let’s face it, it’s Danilo.

Which means Rangers have an abominably thin squad to choose from.

Butland, Tavernier, Sterling, Souttar, Davies, Barisic, Lundstram, Cifuentes, Cantwell, Lawrence, Lammers, Sima, McCausland, Matondo, Dessers and Danilo.

Obviously Clement can go into the reserves and he may have to.

Our predicted selection?

Butland; Tavernier, Souttar, Davies, Barisic; Lundstram, Cifuentes; Lawrence, Cantwell, McCausland; Danilo.

Over half of the team picks itself, the final three players are a complete lucky dip.

We’ll find out tomorrow.
