Paris Saint-Germain's Neymar suffered a sprained ankle against LOSC on Sunday, but he will have to undergo further tests to find out whether he will be out of action for this Sunday's all-important Classique away to title rivals Olympique de Marseille.

Brazil striker Neymar was stretchered off with a sprained right ankle in Paris Saint-Germain's incredibly dramatic 4-3 win over Lille in Ligue 1 Uber Eats on Sunday, sparking concerns at the capital club ahead of a number of important fixtures. First up of course is this Sunday's Classique at the Orange Vélodrome, followed by the second leg of their Champions League last-16 tie against Bayern Munich in Germany in a fortnight's time, and naturally everyone is anxious to know whether the world's most expensive player will be available to help the club reach its lofty goals. "Neymar underwent an MRI today. It did not reveal any fractures," PSG announced early on Sunday evening as they gave a timeline for when a more definitive prognosis might be known. "A new ligament assessment will be carried out in 48 hours."

World Cup ankle injury redux? The No.10, who suffered the same ankle injury during the World Cup in Qatar, left the pitch of the Parc des Princes in the 51st minute - after setting Kylian Mbappé up for PSG's opener and then scoring himself in the first half. Neymar's right ankle turned sharply as he was tackled by Benjamin Andre. The player's team-mates immediately called for medical assistance with worried gestures. On the ground, in tears, the Brazilian tried to get up and walk before clapping his hands in rage and lying down in the stretcher. He came off holding his head in his hands. "It's not bad luck, there are always reasons: the calendar, the sequence of games," explained coach Christophe Galtier. "It complicates things; you have to keep your head down, but keeping your head down with a win is more pleasant."

Form The injury brings back bad memories for PSG, who have been without Neymar in the past for high-stakes Champions League matches. He suffered a foot injury before a last 16 second leg against Real Madrid in 2018, and Paris were eliminated (3-1/2-1). In 2019, 'Ney' relapsed against Strasbourg (2-0) and missed the last 16 against Manchester United (2-0/1-3). And in 2021, Neymar was injured again, this time in the left adductor, and missed the reunion with former club FC Barcelona, agin in the round of 16. But this time PSG qualified (4-1/1-1), with Kylian Mbappé scoring a hat-trick at the Camp Nou. Nuno Mendes also injured Left-back Nuno Mendes also left the field early (31'), replaced by Juan Bernat. The Portuguese player had a "small distension of the internal ligament of the right knee", according to the club, but Galtier played down the severity of the injury following the match: "It doesn't seem too serious to me."
