Milan have not yet made any sort of formal offer to Manchester United for England international Marcus Rashford, and the Premier League giants are unlikely to allow the 27-year-old to leave on a straight loan deal, according to the latest reports in Italy.

Reports at the beginning of the new year suggested that Manchester United have made an offer specifically to Milan to sign Rashford on loan with an option to buy.

However, according to updates from Gianluca Di Marzio, the Rossoneri have not yet made a formal approach for the out-of-favour United star. Milan would also need United to continue covering a significant portion of Rashford’s heft salary if the deal is to work.

Di Marzio adds that Manchester United are unlikely to agree to a straight loan deal, on top of covering the bulk of Rashford’s salary.

However, there have been suggestions that a straight loan deal could get the best out of Rashford, at least from a financial point of view.

The reference point is fellow England international Jadon Sancho, who was completely out of the picture at Old Trafford under Erik ten Hag, but was then allowed to leave on loan abroad to Borussia Dortmund, where he excelled again and saw his market value increase.

Sancho is now on loan at Premier League rivals Chelsea, who are comfortably above United in the table, and is also enjoying a decent season away from Old Trafford.
