‘No controversy’ between Kylian Mbappé and Luis Enrique following half-time substitution against Monaco

According to France Bleu Paris, following Kylian Mbappé’s (25) half-time substitution against Monaco on Friday night, there is ‘no controversy’ between the player and the PSG manager Luis Enrique.

Many were left surprised as the France captain was substituted at the break during Les Parisiens’ goalless draw against Les Monégasques, and then went and sat in the stand with his mother Fayza Lamari. One would likely believe that Mbappé was replaced as a precaution ahead of PSG’s Champions League second leg against Real Sociedad after a challenge from Maripan in the 27th minute. However, Luis Enrique revealed that the decision to remove Mbappé at half-time was not injury-related.

When asked about the decision to replace the 25-year-old with Kolo-Muani at half-time, the PSG boss said, “It was 100% the coach’s decision. Sooner or later we will have to get used to playing without Kylian Mbappe. It is my decision and one that I take with the objective of doing the best for the team.” Despite this, there has been no controversy between the pair.

Mbappé focused on Sociedad

After such a substitution, people may have expected tension between Mbappé and the former Barcelona boss. In contrast, it is quite the opposite – Mbappé is not fazed by the situation and is fully focused on PSG’s next match against Sociedad. According to France Bleu, it was one of the PSG directors who told the forward to take a place in the stands with his family and friends.
