Former Manchester United skipper Paul Ince opens up on the club’s midfield conundrum including the future of Donny van de Beek

Speaking on The United Stand (h/t The Metro), Manchester United hero Paul Ince has opened up on the future of Donny van de Beek at Old Trafford.

He believes the 24-year-old will leave the club in January following what has been an underwhelming spell at the Threatre of Dreams. Ince believes there is no chance that the Dutchman can salvage his career at the club.

“Absolutely no chance. There’s nothing Ole could say that would persuade me that my future is at Manchester United.”

Van de Beek has largely come off the bench at United. He received a rare start midweek against Young Boys but was pulled at the break after United went down to ten men. The Dutchman clearly does not appear to have the rub of luck at the moment.

The Red Devils do have a number of options in midfield. Paul Pogba, Scott McTominay, Fred and Nemanja Matic are all options who have a real chance of starting ahead of the Dutchman. As far as Ince is concerned it would appear Van de Beek’s career is taking its final breaths.

“He must know now that the ‘writing is on the wall, unfortunately.”

The perfect signing?

Ince believes Declan Rice would have been an excellent summer addition. The English international is today a top player and looks set to dominate his position for years to come.

“There was rumours we were going to try and sign him at Manchester United and he’d have been perfect.”

A top midfielder in his day, Ince clearly knows what it will take to succeed in midfield at United. Rice clearly appears to have caught his fancy. Whether the Red Devils will return for the Hammers ace remains to be seen.

United return to Premier League action this week against West Ham United. It will see them go up against Rice on the night. Whether he can put in a performance that will force the Red Devils’ hand remains to be seen.
