Some rather curious rumours came out over the weekend that Cristiano Ronaldo has asked his team Al Nassr to sign Marc Cucurella from Chelsea to strengthen the team.
It was an odd one, coming from nowhere. Jose Felix Diaz of Marca, who is well connected with Ronaldo, reported it. But it wasn’t backed up by any of the usual top transfer sources like Fabrizio Romano.
Bobby Vincent’s Tweet about Marc Cucurella leaving Chelsea.
Yesterday, Bobby Vincent of Football London came out and Tweeted to make sure we all knew there was nothing to these rumours.
He said that there is “zero chance” of the full back leaving Stamford Bridge despite the reports. Al Nassr are already involved in a major deal with Chelsea, as they appear to be closing in on a transfer for Joao Felix. But it appears that will be the only deal done between the two sides this summer.
We’re not sure many fans really would have believed those rumours to begin with – it may well be true that Cristiano asked for him and that Al Nassr made a move, but we can’t imagine it got any further than an immediate dismissal.
Any player in this squad is for sale at the the right price under these owners – but in the case of a player as important as Cucurella, that price would be so high that even a Saudi club like Al Nassr couldn’t countenance paying it.
After fighting back from a rocky start at Chelsea, Cucurella is now one of a select group of untouchables for Enzo Maresca.
If Al Nassr are interested, we have another left back on the books who is available for transfer, at a much lower price…
