Inter failed to sign both Folarin Balogun and Gianluca Scamacca last summer but have been left with no regrets thanks to their options up front.
The Nerazzurri were forced to look around for a new number nine last summer after their work for Romelu Lukaku came to an abrupt halt. A long list of options were considered, including Balogun and Scamacca, but ultimately the club chose to target low-cost reinforcements.
In the final two weeks of August last year, Inter signed Marko Arnautovic on loan from Bologna and Alexis Sanchez on a free transfer, forcing Simone Inzaghi to focus heavily on star striker Lautaro Martinez and new signing Marcus Thuram.
Calciomercato.com, Arnautovic and Sanchez have both started to contribute at a key time for Inter, with the former scoring four goals over the last two months and the latter putting in a good performance in the win over Lecce, providing an assist for Davide Frattesi’s goal.
In comparison, the far more expensive Balogun and Scamacca have both failed to light up their respective clubs this season; the American has scored six across 1367 minutes of action and the Italian seven across 1107 minutes.
