Harry Kane nets brace on his special night

Scorers: Kane 57′, 76′

Harry Kane’s 100th England cap was marked with a top display for the skipper as his brace gave England a 2-0 win over Finland at Wembley.

The striker had the ball in the back of the net early on, but his attempt to score from a Bukayo Saka cross was ruled out for offside.

England dominated in the first half, but failed to find a breakthrough, and just after half-time Kane went close again as Lukas Hradecky managed to turn his shot around the post.

The striker soon had a hat-trick of missed chances as an overhead kick went begging, but almost immediately afterwards he found the breakthrough he so keenly craved.

His first came from a thumping finish into the roof of the net from inside the box after shrugging off the Finland defence, and his second from a fine curling finish, again from inside the penalty area.

Enthralling clash sees Netherlands hold Germany

Scorers: Reijnders 2′, Dumfries 50′; Undav 38′, Kimmich 45+3

It was honours even between rivals Netherlands and Germany as a hard-fought clash ended in a 2-2 draw.

Ronald Koeman’s side got themselves off to a dream start when Tijjani Reijnders finished past Ter Stegen from an excellent through-ball from Ryan Gravenberch.

One almost became two soon afterwards when an unmarked Denzel Dumfries headed wide from a Xavi Simons free-kick.

Germany recovered well from the early setback and got themselves back on level terms when Mathijis de Ligt gave the ball away on the edge of his own box, and Deniz Undav was there to fire home from a Florian Wirtz shot that had been parried by goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen.

It might have been slightly against the run of play, but Germany were ahead just before the half-time whistle blew. Undav turned assist maker, helping the ball on for new captain Joshua Kimmich to deliver the finish.

Into the second half and Dumfries made up for his earlier miss, finishing after some superb hold-up play from Brian Brobbey that created the chance.

Greece late strike seals win over Ireland

Scorers: Ioannidis 50′, Tzolis 87′

Greece recorded a 2-0 win over Ireland thanks in large part to a stunning strike from Fotis Ioannidis.

It was Ireland who had the ball in the back of the net first when Chiedozie Ogbene’s powerful strike flew in, but his effort was ruled out for an offside in the build-up.

In this closely-fought tie, it was going to take a moment of quality to get ahead and Fotis Ioannidis’ curling effort from the edge of the box was exactly that.

The goal meant meant the Panathinaikos forward has now scored three in Greece’s opening two Nations League fixtures.

As the game drew to a close, Christos Tzolis got ahead of Nathan Collins, and slammed the strike past Liverpool stopper Caoimhin Kelleher.

The next round of Nations League fixtures takes place in a month’s time, on Thursday 10th October.
