Niko Kovac says Bayern Munich will do everything they can to sign Leroy Sané this summer.
Bayern have been strongly linked with the Manchester City winger all summer, who netted twice in his side’s 6-1 friendly victory over Kitchee on Wednesday.
The two clubs are still far from agreeing a fee, however, and City remain hopeful that the 23-year-old will commit his future to the club by signing a new contract in the coming weeks.
But Kovac says the Bundesliga champions haven’t given up on their “dream” summer signing just yet.
“We all know that Leroy Sané is our dream player,” the Bayern boss told reporters.
“The public knows that, we know that.
“You can see that the transfer is not easy. But I know that our people are working very hard to make it happen.
“We will do everything to realise this transfer.”
Sané is under contract at the Etihad Stadium until 2021 and speaking after Wednesday’s game in Hong Kong, Blues boss Pep Guardiola reiterated his own desire for the German international to stay put.
“He did a good game, especially in the second half. He is a guy who we appreciate, I like him a lot,” said Guardiola.
“I think he can be better. Two times, three times I said: we want him to stay.
“That’s why he has an offer to extend his contract. It’s not in our hands.
“The agreement is good and if he wants to leave, I’ll be sad. Hopefully, he stays.”
