Niklas Sule has snubbed a new contract at Bayern Munich and will leave on a free transfer this summer, Sport1 reports.

The centre-back has been a regular part of the starting line-up this term after the departures of Jerome Boateng and David Alaba, but this has not convinced him to prolong his stay.

Bayern have repeatedly tried to commit him to a new deal, and they recently failed with an approach in December. Sule will now leave the club when his contract expires on June 30.

Chelsea, Barcelona and Newcastle United are among clubs that have been in contact with the player’s representative.

Football Today verdict:

Sule has been offered a decent pay hike to commit his future, but the 26-year-old appears keen on testing himself in a new league as he enters the prime phase of his career.

Among the interested clubs, Chelsea have been heavily linked with him in recent months. Manager Thomas Tuchel tried to sign him for Borussia Dortmund a few years ago.

The German tactician remains a huge admirer of his talents, and it won’t be a surprise if the west London giants look to negotiate a pre-contract agreement as soon as possible.

Barcelona are also in the mix. While they have endured mixed league fortunes this season, they still remain a dream destination for several elite players across the world.

They may be in transition at the moment, but could be another tempting choice for Sule. However, Chelsea could still have the edge as they play with a regular back three.

Barcelona tried to do so under former boss Ronald Koeman, but have reverted to the traditional four-man backline since Xavi Hernandez took charge in November last year.

Newcastle are outsiders, but their wealthy Saudi owners could lure Sule, particularly if he is looking for a significant signing-on fee on top of hefty wages.
