Olympique Lyonnais left-back Nicolás Tagliafico (31) is reportedly frustrated by Les Gones’ refusal to allow his departure away from the Ligue 1 side, according to a report from Foot Mercato.

The 29-year-old defender was the subject of interest from his former club, AFC Ajax, and most notably Manchester United in these last few weeks. The 2022 World Cup winner with Argentina, who happens to turn 31 this Thursday, would have reunited with his former Ajax manager, Erik ten Hag, with the Red Devils. United were in the market for a left-back following Luke Shaw’s injury.

Lyon owner John Textor revealed that Les Gones had no intention of selling Tagliafico, with Manchester United now shifting their attention to Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella. The Argentine is reportedly upset that he was denied the opportunity to join a more ambitious club when youngsters Castello Lukeba and Bradley Barcola have been allowed to move on, despite Textor’s intentions to retain them in the first place. The France U21 international centre-back has sealed his transfer to RB Leipzig whilst the winger is currently undergoing his medical pending a move to PSG.

Foot Mercato understands that Tagliafico is not the only player to feel let down by Lyon’s sporting policy within Laurent Blanc’s dressing room. On X, Tagliafico has denied the report, calling it “Fake News“. Lyon have gained only one point since the start of the season courtesy of their goalless away draw at Nice. They will host Ligue 1 champions PSG on Sunday.
