Club America triumphed 11-2 over the two-legged quarterfinal series against Puebla, leading head coach Nicolás Larcamón to apologize to supporters.

"Clearly the series leaves a fatal result in the sense that everything that was built in 96 hours ends up hitting us very hard for what the group deserved, this is unfortunately the case. We were emptied, I need time to better analyze the team's response, but stay with the positive beyond apologizing to the people and the history of this club,” he said in the press conference after the match.

"Although everything built over these years has had memorable moments, I am very sorry for this series, especially for our people.”

Despite concluding the regular season in eighth with 22 points from 17 games and defeating Chivas to reach the quarterfinals, Club America proved too much for Puebla.

The Mexico City team first kicked off with a 6-1 victory against Puebla at the Estadio Cuauhtémoc, as goals from Henry Martin, Diego Valdes, Alejandro Zendejas, Brian Rodriguez and Federico Viñas set the tone for the second match.

The Eagles then hosted Puebla at the Estadio Azteca, where five more goals led America to the biggest win in the history of Liga MX’s Liguilla. Toluca previously held that title, defeating Puebla 7-0 overall in their quarterfinal series in the Summer of 2000.

Tano Ortiz’s side now await their opponent as Tigres visits Pachuca and Santos Laguna hosts Toluca.
