Undoubtedly one of the signings that most excited Club América supporters at the time was that of Chilean striker Nicolás Castillo.

Castillo arrived in a €7m move from Portuguese giants Benfica (a fee that could rise to €9m) exactly one year ago and everyone hoped he would turn into the deadly force that América has been looking for.

Unfortunately, Castillo’s time with the Eagles has been riddled with injuries, only having featured 27 times for América.

However, his nine goals and three assists do suggest that if he can be healthy, he will have a lot to offer.

He has yet to feature this year and underwent surgery on his right thigh on Wednesday. However, he suffered another setback on Thursday when he had to be sent back to the operating room.

It was discovered that the soon-to-be 27-year-old striker has a thrombosis (blood clot) in his femoral artery, a dangerous condition that if not treated could be potentially life-threatening.

According to the América medical report, Castillo “was treated by a peripheral vascular specialist, who managed to reverse the obstruction in its entirety.”

Castillo is in stable condition and will remain under medical observation for the next 48 hours. We wish Castillo all the best in his recovery.
