Borussia Dortmund purchased Nico Schulz from Hoffenheim for an eye-watering €25m last summer, which appeared to be a bargain at the time.
However, the 27-year-old has not hit the ground running, making just eight Bundesliga appearances this season as Dortmund have opted to either use Raphaël Guerreiro or go with three centre-backs.
Despite his struggles, according to Kicker, the Germany international will be given another chance to develop into the club’s first-choice left-back next season.
“I only know that I didn’t play the best football I can play at BVB in the first few months,” he told Ruhr Nachrichten. “Now I have to stay tuned.
“I am self-critical enough and now I just want to do better.”
Schulz last made a Bundesliga appearance all the way back in December when he faced his former side in a 2-1 defeat.
