Incoming Borussia Dortmund defender Nico Schlotterbeck has insisted that the shock departure of Marco Rose has not impacted his excitement about his summer move.
The Freiburg man agreed to the move earlier this month ahead of finishing the current campaign with the Breisgau outfit, who were beaten in the final of the DFB Pokal by RB Leipzig on Saturday night.
Schlotterbeck was an impressive performer in the penalty shootout loss and speaking afterwards, he looked ahead to life at the Westfalenstadion.
“I wasn’t focused on it too much but it certainly came as a surprise to me,” he told Sky when asked about Rose’s exit.
“But I was convinced about the whole Dortmund project, that’s why I made that choice. The coach has changed but these things happen in football.
“You have to live with that. I had good discussions with Marco. I don’t know who will take over but I’m sure the club will make a good decision.”
Early expectations are that Edin Terzić will take up the reins again and Schlotterbeck is keen for a repeat of his previous DFB Pokal heroics – particularly after Freiburg’s loss.
“It is very disappointing to lose in a cup final,” he added. “But hopefully we can bring this thing [the trophy] to Dortmund next year.”
Sebastian Kehl on Jamie Bynoe-Gittens: “He can be an exceptional player.”
