Former Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner has reportedly been arrested following a violent altercation with a taxi driver.

According to Danish outlet BT, Bendtner – who now plays for Norwegian side Rosenborg – broke the jaw of the driver in Copenhagen in the early hours of Sunday morning.

A statement given to Ekstra Bladet by Rasmus Krochin, Communications Manager for taxi company DanTaxi, confirmed the details.

“I can confirm that there has been a serious assault on one of our drivers tonight,” said Krochin.

“The driver is currently on the operating table with a broken jaw. Our director was informed about this morning.

“The assault has been reported to the police and we can confirm that the assailant is Nicklas Bendtner.”

Copenhagen Police security chief Carsten Reenberg added: “We have had a report about violence against a rental car. I can not tell you anymore.”

This is not the first time Bendtner has been linked to an incident involving a taxi. In 2014, he was alleged to have got partially undressed before rubbing himself up against a taxi and calling the driver “a little whore”.

The 30-year-old came through the youth system at Arsenal and scored 47 goals in 171 appearances for the club before leaving to join Wolfsburg via loan spells with Birmingham City, Sunderland and Juventus.

He has since also spent a season at Nottingham Forest and last year, he netted 23 times in his first campaign with Rosenborg but missed out on a place in Denmark’s World Cup squad due to injury.
