Nice-Matin are reporting that OGC Nice could make a shock move for Uruguayan striker Edinson Cavani (35), who is a free agent having left Manchester United this summer.

President Jean-Pierre Rivère is no stranger to pulling off high-profile, surprise transfers. Having tempted Hatem Ben Arfa and Mario Balotelli to the Allianz Riviera in the past, he is now looking to pull off another big-name move. Having leaned on youth, Rivère now wants to add some experience to the mix and the club have already been linked with moves for Yann Sommer (33) and Steve Mandanda (37).

The club are now linked with Cavani, who despite reaching the tail-end of his career is nonetheless widely coveted by some of Europe’s top clubs. Should Nice get their man, they would have to fend off interest from Valencia, Rayo Vallecano, Elche and Salernitana.

According to Nice-Matin, Cavani “fits the profile” for the type of centre-forward that Nice are coveting, and his arrival could precipitate the departure of Evann Guessand (21), who is attracting interest from numerous clubs.

Despite Rivère’s determination to pull off the transfer, it is thought that Cavani doesn’t prioritise a move back to France, where he made 200 appearances for PSG across seven years.
