OGC Nice 0-0 Olympique Lyonnais
THE MATCH
Lyon headed to the Côte d’Azur in desperate need of reassurance after a dreadful start to the season which had seen Laurent Blanc’s side lose their opening two games, conceding six goals in the process.
With Alexandre Lacazette missing due to suspension, OL offered little going forward but they did have arguably the best chance of the whole game when Rayan Cherki released Amin Sarr in the first half for the Swedish forward to have a shot saved by Marcin Bulka.
That was Lyon’s only attempt on target, while Nice enjoyed more of the ball and more shots without seriously troubling Rémy Riou in the away goal. They are yet to win under new coach Francesco Farioli, although this was a third consecutive draw for Les Aiglons at the start of this season. Lyon have their first point but end August in the relegation zone.
THE PLAYER: Rayan Cherki
With Lacazette banned and Bradley Barcola perhaps distracted by the speculation about his future, Cherki was the bright spot in attack for Lyon. He is a reminder that for all OL’s current difficulties, they can still enjoy a successful season if they can get the very best out of Cherki, who only turned 20 earlier this month.
THE STAT: 3
Nice have drawn all three games so far this season under new coach Francesco Farioli.
