Empoli have overtaken Genoa in the race for Adana Demirspor striker Mbaye Niang, while the Grifone have replaced Radu Dragusin with Giorgio Cittadini of Atalanta.
The transfer window in Italy closes on the evening of February 1 at 19.00 GMT.
It had been suggested that Niang and Adana Demirspor would find an agreement to terminate his contract by mutual consent and make him into a free agent.
Instead, Tuttomercatoweb maintain the former Milan striker will be sold for a minimal fee.
A return to Genoa had seemed the most likely destination, as Niang already played there on loan from Milan in 2018.
However, Empoli have now got the upper hand and expect the 29-year-old to fly in for a medical on Sunday or Monday.
His contract should only run to the end of the season with an option for another year if Empoli stay in Serie A.
Meanwhile, Genoa have found the replacement for Dragusin, who was sold to Tottenham Hotspur in the January window.
Cittadini had his medical this afternoon and will arrive on loan from Atalanta, interrupting the loan experience he was in the middle of at Monza.
