N’Golo Kanté has dismissed suggestions he is unhappy with the more advanced role he’s been asked to play for Chelsea this season.

Kanté scored the only goal in his side’s 1-0 win away at Crystal Palace on Sunday, taking his Premier League goals tally to three for the season.

The Frenchman is widely considered one of the world’s leading defensive midfielders and earlier in the season, there was talk he was confused by Maurizio Sarri’s decision to play him further up the pitch.

But he insists that could not be further from the truth.

“[This role] is something I am enjoying and in a game I try to make that run sometimes,” Kanté told Chelsea’s official website.

“David [Luiz] gave me a good ball and I am happy to score with my left foot and give something to the team.

“Crystal Palace had a great game defensively, but we kept the pressure on, kept the ball and were happy to score in the second half. It was very difficult at the end of the game but we were able to fight and get the win.”

It was defender Luiz who provided the assist for Kanté’s goal at Selhurst Park and after the game, the Brazilian spoke about the connection he shares with the midfielder.

“It’s the connection, training together every day, understanding the philosophy and trying to improve,” said Luiz.

“I just tried to put the ball with the timing for N’Golo to arrive and try to score, that’s it.”
