Real Madrid play their last game of the season today, but their summer transfer plans are already becoming clear.

It will be Karim Benzema’s final game for the club after he today announced that he would be leaving and heading to Saudi Arabia, very possibly to play on the same team as his old friend Cristiano Ronaldo.

Al Ittihad (the Saudi club in question) aren’t stopping there however, and transfer reporter Rudy Galetti is claiming that they are ready to swoop for N’Golo Kante, whose Chelsea contract expires at the end of this month.

Not long ago it looked certain that Kante would be staying at Chelsea and signing a new contract – now the signs are that he will be on his way, and has played his last for the club.

It’s a major loss given his quality, but perhaps the time is right, given there’s going to be massive upheaval this summer anyway. As good as he is, the fact that we haven’t been able to count on him for a full season for some years has actually been very disruptive to our team planning.

This way we can clear his wages, sign a proper replacement and start preparing this team for its new era.

We’d still rather he stayed – but we can see the good points about calling time on his stay at Stamford Bridge too. We will find out his future within days it seems.
