Paris Saint-Germain superstar Neymar Jr has said he will continue playing right through to the end of his current contract in 2025. Before then, the Brazil idol has plenty in his sights, including a World Cup and the Seleção goal-scoring record of a certain Pelé…

Speaking on the Fenômenos podcast with fellow Brazil legend Ronaldo, Neymar was candid about his future in football and made it clear he still has plenty to achieve in the sport in which he has been a major figure for over a decade. 'My mental health is the most important thing'

However, the 30-year-old explained that he won't be pushing it after his current contract with Paris Saint-Germain comes to term in June 2025. "I joke with my friends that I will retire when I'm 32, but it's just a joke. I don't know. Honestly, I will play until I'm mentally tired," said the former Santos prodigy who admitted he is more likely to opt for a move to America's MLS than one home to Brazil once his tenure at the Parc des Princes is up. "If my mental health is ok and my body as well. Physically, I think I'll still last a few years. But my mental health is the most important thing. My contract with Paris will last until I'm 34. So I'll be playing [at least] until then."

Goal NEYMAR JR (47 - PSG) / FC NANTES - PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN (3-1) / 21/22

In the meantime, the Paris Saint-Germain star - whose superb strike against Nantes suggested he is returning to his best after a two-month ankle injury lay-off - is gearing up for a big year. Paris, who have a 13-point lead atop the Ligue 1 Uber Eats table, are taking a 1-0 lead into their UEFA Champions League round of 16 return leg away to Real Madrid on 9 March. Neymar, Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappé & Co. will doubtless be looking to go all the way in Europe's top club competition, with the prospect of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar glittering in the background. 'I do hope I can break Pelé's record'

While Neymar has won just about every domestic title has has competed for, football Football's holy grail has so far eluded him, and he has his heart set on leading his football-mad nation to a sixth world title - while snatching the title of Brazil's all-time top scorer from the legendary Pelé.   "We will go in search of the World Cup, which is what everyone wants," said Neymar, who trails Pelé's 77-goal record by just seven strikes. "It would be a great honour to be the national team's greatest scorer and I would be lying if I said I don't think about it. Of course, that is one of my personal goals. I hope to achieve it. I do hope I can break Pele's record because he's an idol for everyone in Brazil."

Neymar's next appointment with PSG comes in the form of Saturday's visit of Saint-Etienne.
