Neymar now sits behind Pelé. The Brazil legend has 77 goals in official matches and 95 goals scored counting unofficial matches with the national team. If health remains on his side, the 29-year-old should be able to reach the mark. The PSG superstar still has the remaining fixtures in the Copa América, the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers, along with the World Cup next year to chip away at Pelé’s record.

The Brazil international has commented on having himself compared to some of the best players to ever put on the iconic green and yellow colors; such as Romario and Zico.

“I’m very happy and very happy for these numbers and for reaching those aces and great players who are Zico and Romario,” Neymar said. “It is a great honor.

Despite reaching these milestones, many will judge Neymar on the trophies won. The forward understands that cementing his legacy with the Brazil national team; he must win not only the Copa América but the World Cup next year.

Recently former PSG forward Reinaldo made some comments about Neymar needing to win these international tournaments.

“If he wants to continue to be considered one of the best in the world, he has to win this kind of competition. [Neymar] needs it; he must show that he is hungry and that he will be ready for the World Cup,” Reinaldo said.
