Paris Saint-Germain welcomed Montpellier to the Parc des Princes on Saturday and held on to all three points after a 5-2 win.

PSG were in control of the pitch in all aspects although Montpellier goalkeeper Jonas Omlin initially kept their star attacking trio at bay.

Lionel Messi teed up Neymar but the Brazilian could not place the ball beyond the shot-stopper who made himself big.

Then minutes later VAR awarded PSG a penalty following a handball from Jordan Ferri but the 28-year-old stepped up and saved Kylian Mbappé’s attempt before pushing away two shots from Messi.

But all of the goalkeeper’s hard work would be undone just before the break as defensive errors gifted PSG the lead.

First Mbappé’s shot across the box was drilled into Montepellier’s net by Falaye Sacko before Neymar converted another penalty four minutes later.

Coming out into the second half PSG continued to dictate the flow of the game and the Brazilian number 10 made things 3-0 on the night before Mbappé added a fourth and Renato Sanches also scored his first for the club.

That’s now five goals and three assists to Neymar’s name so far this season a day after he received his Ballon d’Or snub.

The consolation prize for Montpellier, however, was that they erased any clean sheet hopes for the hosts.

Gianluigi Donnarumma spilled a save which allowed Wahbi Khazri to poke home a loose ball and Enzo Gianni Tchato Mbiayi’s bullet seconds before full-time added another.

The 5-2 win means PSG sit top of the table in France after two matches.
