Paris Saint-Germain forward Neymar made history on Tuesday when he passed Ronaldo on Brazil’s all-time goal-scoring list. The PSG superstar came into the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying fixture against Peru with 61 international goals, which pit him at just one goal behind Ronaldo for second in Brazil’s goals list. But the PSG talent finished the contest with a hat-trick to pass Ronaldo on the list and clinch the win for Brazil.

For Neymar, this was a landmark achievement in his career. He had already passed Brazilian legends such as Rivaldo and Ronaldinho on Brazil’s goal-scoring list. But to pass Ronaldo, this is a moment that the talent will not forget soon. He spoke after the game (via CBF) on passing Ronaldo and his goal celebration after the first goal.

“I did it in honor of Ronaldo, because I drew with him in goals and I wanted to honor him in some way, because he is an idol for all of us Brazilians, and for me mainly,” Neymar said.

Neymar will now return to PSG where his slated to feature with the club as soon as possibly later this week in the team’s away league fixture against Nimes Olympique.
