Paris Saint-Germain remain top of the Ligue 1 table after a narrow victory over Brest at Parc des Princes on Saturday.

Neymar scored his 10th goal of the season and Gianluigi Donnarumma saved a second half penalty from Islam Slimani to clinch the three points.

Brest thought they’d been reduced to 10 men mid-way through the first half, when Christophe Hérelle was shown a straight red card for bringing down Neymar when the Brazilian had been slipped through on goal by Lionel Messi.

But after a VAR check it was confirmed that Neymar was offside, and the red card was overturned.

PSG went in front moments later, however, when Neymar latched onto another superb Messi pass and rifled a left-footed half-volley across the goalkeeper and into the corner.

Messi then forced goalkeeper Marco Bizot into a save just before half-time, before Kylian Mbappé had the ball in the net only for the flag to go up for offside.

Into the second half and Messi went close to making it 2-0 when his header from Mbappé’s cross hit the post.

Brest then had a great chance to equalise, when PSG captain Presnel Kimpembe was adjudged to have fouled Noah Fadiga in the box, and the referee pointed to the penalty spot.

Slimani stepped up, but his weak penalty was saved comfortably by Donnarumma.

Next up for Christophe Galtier’s side is a trip to Israel to face Maccabi Haifa in the Champions League on Wednesday.
