Neymar is hoping to be back on the pitch in time to play for Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League quarter-finals, provided they make it past Manchester United first.

The Brazilian suffered a fractured metatarsal in a Coupe de France victory over Strasbourg on 23 January and was ruled out of action for 10 weeks.

But the 27-year-old says his injury is healing well and he hopes to be back on the pitch sometime around 9 or 10 April.

“It’s getting better,” he told Brazilian YouTube show Fui Clear.

“We have already done several treatments, some procedures in order to improve it as quickly as possible and we are happy with the progress and with how things are going.

“I can’t wait to do what I love to do the most in my life which is to play football. It’s eight to 10 weeks [recovery period] — that’s what we imagine, so I think 10 weeks at most. We have worked to accelerate the process.”

PSG won 2-0 away at Manchester United in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 clash on Tuesday and if all goes to plan in the second leg, Neymar’s personal physio Rafael Martini believes the forward’s participation in the quarter-finals is realistic.

“We think that, if everything goes well, if Paris [Saint-Germain] qualify for the Champions League quarter-finals, we are thinking about playing the quarterfinals,” said Martini.

“If all goes well.”

PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon has won everything but the Champions League in his illustrious career, and Neymar says he has promised the 41-year-old that he will do everything in his power to get him a medal before he hangs up his gloves.

“He is a phenomenon,” said Neymar.

“It’s an honour for me to be a part of his career.

“He is a very good person – I had talked to him, you know? I said:’ I know you’re after a Champions [League trophy], this year I’m going to do everything I can to get it for you.’

“And when I got injured, he sent me a message which said: ‘Hey come on, get back as soon as possible because you promised!”
