Real Madrid are already preparing for an enormous transfer next summer, with Marca reporting €200m has been set aside to sign a star player.
That player? Well, they think it could be Neymar.
With Los Blancos currently trailing far behind Barcelona in LaLiga, there could be a lot of pressure to spend big in the summer of 2018. What better way to spend it than on the superstar Barcelona couldn’t keep?
Madrid have supposedly decided they are willing to spend big but will not spend huge sums of money on players who aren’t undeniable stars. That leaves a pretty select pool of talent to choose from.
Neymar moved from Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain last summer for a world record €222m fee. Barcelona were helpless, as the sum activated his release clause.
Ever since, though, the Brazilian is said to have been unhappy, clashing with manager Unai Emery as well as his team-mates.
It would be a lot easier for Madrid to sign Neymar from PSG than from Barcelona and it’s clear the Spanish champions are still aggrieved that they were beaten to the forward when he left Santos for Barça in 2013.
While it seems doubtful Neymar would already entertain the idea of forcing through another transfer, Madrid appear to be serious and could also wait until 2019 to capture their man. Still only 25, Neymar has plenty of time to win big trophies in Paris before returning to one of Europe’s more premier leagues and more prestigious teams.
Way back in the league and with Cristiano Ronaldo struggling for form at 32, a big signing will be demanded at Madrid in the near future.
