The home side, who are competing in Ligue 1 for the first time in the club’s 111-year history, were simply no match for the star-studded Parisiens, who brought out a full-strength squad for the match.

Neymar opened up the scoring for PSG with a well-stuck shot near the edge of the box coming off a Messi pass, though Clermont will feel hard done as one of their players were down injured in the box while the goal was being scored.

Messi would tally his second assist of the contest just 13 minutes later in some style, playing a cheeky lobbed volley behind the back line to Mbappé, who made no mistake in front of goal.

The hosts wouldn’t go down easily as Jodel Dossou finished off an absolutely brilliant team move to make it 2-1 heading into the dressing room.

Though the scoreline would remain the same for quite some time, PSG eventually opened the floodgates late on.

Mbappé was pulled down in the area after beating his man, allowing Neymar to convert from the spot. Three minutes later, the two would reverse roles, with Neymar providing a delicate ball over the top for Mbappé to score his second.

The pair completed their hat-tricks three minutes apart, with Mbappé’s goal drawing considerable applause from the home supporters.

Messi’s unbelievable Ligue 1 assist total now stands at 14 through just 20 games, putting him the co-league leader along with Mbappé, who has played eight more games.

Clermont Foot remain just one point above the drop zone in 17th place with seven games to play.
