Al-Hilal picked up their first win of the AFC Champions League on Tuesday where their big names impressed.
Scorers: Mitrović 18′, Neymar 58′, Alshehri 90+3′. Red cards: Houshmand 38′; Al-Faraj 38′
After initially dropping points in their tournament opener, Al-Hilal managed to bounce back during their trip to face Nassaji Mazandaran in Iran.
The first summer signing to find the net was Aleksandar Mitrović. The Serbian was left unmarked in the box, called out for the ball and headed it off the ground for 1-0.
However, some drama ensued just before the break as both sides had a man sent off. Both Amir Houshmand and Salman Al-Faraj went walking due to a physical altercation between players.
The visitors dominated the game statistically, but the match remained a nervy affair with only one goal to show for it. That was until what would feel like the world’s weight lifted off Neymar’s shoulders.
The Brazilian pulled off some brilliant link-up play with Nasser Aldawsari and drilled home from outside the box for 2-0.
It means after five games Neymar has finally scored his first for the club since arriving from Paris Saint-Germain. It is also his first goal in the AFC Champions League.
A late strike from Saleh Alshehri then solidified the win for the visitors. Looking at the table, Al-Hilal are tied for top spot in their group.
