International U16 tournament starts tomorrow at the Academy

Our cooperation partners FC Liefering are once again hosting a top international gathering: the Red Bull Football Academy is again the venue for one of the most prestigious tournaments in U16 football! A total of twelve teams from all corners of the planet – including heavyweights such as Liverpool, Benfica and reigning champions Red Bull Bragantino – will battle it out from tomorrow (14 August) until Saturday to compete for glory in the 16th edition of the Next Generation Trophy.

The heirs of Phil Foden, Dominik Szoboszlai and Konrad Laimer – this trio is just a fraction of the top talents to have previously competed – will compete in four groups of three teams. The top two teams in each group will advance to the quarter-finals, while the rest will compete in placement matches.

It all starts v Bilbao

The Red Bull Football Academy's U16 team, coached by Tobias Kern, will kick off the three-day tournament tomorrow at 11:00 CEST against Athletic Bilbao. Liverpool complete Group A. The Academy is open for to all spectators to attend. Parking is not permitted on site, but parking spaces are available at the nearby Salzachseen.

Mode

The games will consist of two 25-minute halves with a five-minute break. In the knockout phase, a penalty shoot-out will determine the winner in the event of a draw in regular time.

Another highlight on the horizon

The next top-class youth tournament is already in the pipeline: on 6 and 7 September, the Porsche Football Cup 2025, one of the most important U15 tournaments in Europe, will be held again – and the Salzburg Akademy team will be there! All the information can be found HERE.
