Newport County are in talks to sign Omar Bogle from Hartlepool United, according to Football Insider.

The Exiles fell away from the play-off places in League Two agonisingly late on in the 2021/22 campaign, but will be targeting another promotion push in their first full season under James Rowberry.

Dom Telford left the club at the end of his contract, and has since signed for Crawley Town, leaving a large hole in the final third for County to replace.

Bogle has had a very up and down career in the EFL, but when onsong the 28-year-old is definitely one of the most exciting strikers in the fourth tier.

The former Cardiff City man has two years remaining on his contract with the Pools and that could make it difficult for the Exiles to prize him away from Paul Hartley’s men, who look set for a difficult season.

Bogle has never really been a prolific striker, but his ability one versus one, hold-up play and ability to combine with other attacking players does make him an attractive proposition at League Two level.

The 28-year-old will not replace Telford’s goals, but he would offer more outside of the penalty area than their top scorer did last season.

What year were Newport founded?

1892 1902 1912 1922

Omar Bogle has appeared to be a tricky personality to manage in recent years and he has found his level in the fourth tier.

In Lewis Collins, Aaron Wildig, Offrande Zanzala, Sam Bowen and Chanka Zimba, the Exiles have the foundations of a very exciting attacking contingent and the missing piece of the jigsaw could be a more physical striker for the others to bounce off of.

There is an element of risk to bringing Bogle in, and a significant transfer fee will be required given the length of his contract at Victoria Park, but having seen a lot of players moving on at the end of their deals this summer, there is plenty of room for manoeuvre at Rodney Parade.
