The USA face Canada on Sunday evening in a battle to lift the CONCACAF Nations League title, and we have some interesting history for the Americans.
With both sides pushing for the first goal, chances arrived at either end. Fortunately for the Stars and Stripes, they have made the most of their opportunities.
Gio Reyna’s inch-perfect corner found the head of a leaping Chris Richards and thanks to some questionable defending and poor goalkeeping by Milan Borjan, it was 1-0.
The goal meant Richards was the first player to score his first USMNT goal in a final – but he wouldn’t be the only one for long.
Former England U21 international Folarin Balogun joined Richards in celebrations after only recently deciding to switch allegiances.
2 - Folarin Balogun is the second player to score his first career @USMNT goal in a final. Update.–
To add to that, Reyna is now the American with most goal contributions in a final (one goal, three assists) passing Landon Donovan and Clint Dempsey.
