Newcastle's new owners have 'one of the most electric players in the Premier League'

Journalist Tom Barclay has described Newcastle winger Allan Saint-Maximin as one of the most "electric" players in the Premier League.

The Frenchman has already been directly involved in five league goals this season and has continued to prove himself as one of the most breath-taking forward in the top-flight.

How has Saint-Maximin performed this season?

Having scored goals in each of Newcastle's draws against Southampton and Leeds and provided the assist for Sean Longstaff's opener at Watford earlier this month, it wouldn't be wrong to say that the Mapgies would be rock-bottom of the Premier League without the Frenchman's exploits.

Only Jacob Murphy's goal against West Ham and Jeff Hendrick's long-range effort at Wolves earlier this month weren't supplied by Saint-Maximin, whose form has been exhilarating at times this season.

He hasn't yet done enough to get Newcastle their first three points of the season, although that isn't without trying having scored twice and chipped in with three assists.

His five goal contributions this term is already just two fewer than he managed throughout the whole of last season and three less than he contributed to in his first campaign in English football in 2019-2020.

Newcastle are still struggling down in 19th place with only three points next to their name, but Barclay reckons that Saint-Maximin's form has been worth getting excited about.

What did Barclay say?

He told GIVEMESPORT: "It's just enjoyable watching him, that's the main thing at the moment. He's one of the most electric players in the Premier League, and it's nice that those clubs fighting down the bottom have those players as well."

Where does Saint-Maximin rank in the Premier League?

In terms of entertainment value, there aren't many better to watch in the Premier League than the Frenchman.

However, Saint-Maximin still has some way to go before he can be considered as one of the best in his position in the league. His statistics this season are starting to improve, but he must start regularly hitting the 10-goal and 10-assist mark to be compared to the likes of Heung Min Son, Raheem Sterling, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah.

But with five goal involvements in seven matches, he's certainly heading the right way.
