Newcastle head to Manchester City this weekend aiming to end a torrid record at the Etihad.
The Magpies have failed to win at the ground since a League Cup success in 2014. It’s been almost 25 years since the club’s last league win at Manchester City. Newcastle will be confident, however, with City having endured a decline this season.
Eddie Howe’s side earned impressive cup wins over Arsenal and Birmingham City in recent games and are competing for a place in the Champions League. Currently sixth, the Magpies are level on points with this weekend’s fifth-placed opponents.
City are looking to respond to a midweek setback in Europe. Pep Guardola’s side were beaten 3-2 by Real Madrid in Manchester, despite leading heading into the final four minutes.
Eddie Howe will hope that Anthony Gordon, Joelinton, Sven Botman and Dan Burn can all shake off issues to feature. However, the Magpies will be without Harvey Barnes and Jamaal Lascelles who remain sidelined.
Alexander Isak should come back into the starting side after starting as a substitute against Birmingham, while Joe Willock will hope to retain his place after his two goals at St Andrews.
A decision will also be made in goal between Nick Pope and Martin Dubravka, following the former’s return to fitness.
Newcastle predicted XI: Dubravka; Livramento, Botman, Schar, Hall; Tonali, Guimaraes, Willock; Murphy, Isak, Gordon
