Why Newcastle United should sign Jarrod Bowen

Southampton and Newcastle United are both in the race to sign Hull City star Jarrod Bowen, as per reports from the Express.

The 22-year-old has been outstanding in the Championship this season, racking up 15 goals and three assists in 20 appearances since the start of the campaign. Bowen’s current contract expires in the summer, although the Tigers do have the option to extend that by a year, meaning there is no immediate danger of him walking away for free just yet.

He racked up 22 goals and four assists for Hull in the second tier last season but Bowen seems on track to better that tally this time around, which has caught the eye of top-flight bosses.

As per news from the Telegraph, Steve Bruce will be allowed to add one more player to his squad and he has already set his sights on a top target in Bowen.

Operating on the right flank, Bowen is lethal when he cuts inside and uses his favoured left foot. Bowen has now netted 50 goals for Hull City, thus illustrating his proficiency in front of the goal.

Newcastle have scouted the Championship star extensively and are interested in signing Bowen (h/t Express). His age, profile, abilities and potential make him the sort of player Newcastle should consider pushing their financial parameters for. Also, it must be noted that Bruce has previously worked with the player during his time at Hull.

There is little doubt that he can cope with the step-up from the second tier to the Premier League. If he hits the ground running, Bowen would be a superb addition to the Newcastle side, especially since St. James’ Park is in dire need of goals.

Newcastle lost the services of two of their star players in the summer. While Salomon Rondon reunited with former boss Rafa Benitez, Ayoze Perez left the club to join Leicester City. The Magpies did manage to secure the signing of Joelinton for a club record fee but they lack depth in the attacking column.

Meanwhile, Andy Carroll has returned to St. James’ Park but he is prone to injuries. All said and done, a player like Jarrod Bowen would be a valuable addition to the club.

Newcastle’s blueprint of late also has been to invest in young players and sell them for high profits. Bowen perfectly fits the bill and since he has already worked under Steve Bruce at Hull, it would be easier for him to settle in.

Verdict

It would be a real statement of intent if Newcastle can land Bowen. The youngster has the ability to finish off chances and help them climb up the league table.

Playing in the Premier League has often brought the best out of Championship players. James Maddison has taken the league by storm and Bowen has the class to excel as well.
