Newcastle United are looking to build on the imminent arrival of Sandro Tonali by attempting to sign Theo Hernandez and Federico Chiesa, according to reports.
The Geordies mean business this summer after qualifying for the Champions League as Eddie Howe eyes a number of marquee signings.
Following links with Inter Milan’s Nicolo Barella, it was .
And transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed that a deal will be completed “today” with his medical “already scheduled”.
“Newcastle will complete Sandro Tonali deal today after verbal agreement reached yesterday. Medical already scheduled and agents flying to Romania where he’s with Italy U21 for the Euros. #NUFC Documents being reviewed then deal completed.”
But the Magpies are not done there with Sky Italia suggesting they have made contact over two more Serie A stars with AC Milan’s Hernandez and Juventus’ Chiesa on their radar.
Newcastle have ‘requested information’ on the Serie A pair but it will be a challenge for Howe’s men to land the left-back and the winger.
It is understood that Milan’s asking price for Hernandez could be as high as €100m, while Juventus are looking for €60m for Chiesa, meaning Newcastle could have to fork out as much as €160m (£137m) to land both.
Sky Italia journalist Gianluca Di Marzio tweeted: “@NUFC are also monitoring @juventusfc forward Federico #Chiesa and @acmilan left-bacm #TheoHernandez. No official negotiations in progress.”
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano insisted last weekend that Arsenal had not yet showed any interest in Chiesa.
Romano wrote: “At the moment, I’m not aware of any interest in Federico Chiesa. So, let’s see later in the window. But at the moment, this is not something concrete.
“In general, I think they will explore the wingers market because they can find some opportunity, and in that case, they will be ready to attack the market.”
But Italian publication Gazzetta dello Sport revealed on Friday that Liverpool are ‘willing to get serious’ over the Italy international with Jurgen Klopp’s side currently leading the race for his signature.
It is understood that ‘big manoeuvres have already begun’ with Chiesa’s agent and Liverpool are ‘willing to guarantee’ the €8m a year that Juventus are not willing to pay him.
Liverpool ‘come forward in a concrete way as early as next week’ and they are ready to bid €40-45m for Chiesa, although Juventus are looking for nearer €60m.
