Newcastle United take on Manchester United in a huge Premier League game this weekend.
Eddie Howe’s side are hunting down Champions League qualification and will target a fourth consecutive league win at St James’ Park.
Fifth in the table heading into the weekend, the news that the Premier League will be allocated a fifth Champions League place for next season has boosted the Magpies’ hopes of a return to Europe’s elite.
Their opponents arrive mired in the bottom half. Amid pre-season expectations of a top-four finish, the Red Devils are 13th after a disappointing domestic campaign. Ruben Amorim’s primary focus is likely to be on the Europa League, ahead of their quarter-final second leg with Lyon on Thursday night.
Alexander Isak is fit for Newcastle’s upcoming schedule despite nursing a groin issue, though Anthony Gordon remains doubtful for the weekend.
Lewis Hall, Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles all remain sidelined for the Magpies through injury, while Joe Willock is ruled out due to concussion protocols. Another absentee could be manager Eddie Howe. Assistant boss Jason Tindall attended Friday’s pre-match press conference with Howe ‘bed-bound’ by illness this week.
Newcastle predicted XI: Pope; Trippier, Schar, Burn, Livramento; Guimaraes, Tonali, Joelinton; Murphy, Barnes, Isak.
Newcastle host Manchester United in the Premier League on Sunday 13th April 2025. Kick-off at St James’ Park is 16:30 BST.
The fixture will be broadcast on Sky Sports in the UK.
