Newcastle United winning the 2026/27 Premier League title without Alexander Isak?

I’ve been reading with interest the latest transfer sagas surrounding Newcastle United.
After bagging Anthony Elanga, things were very much looking up in the transfer stakes, then came the further exciting news that Hugo Etikite, long coveted by Sir Edward, is very much in our sights.
At the same time, some rather disturbing news that Alexander Isak is potentially on his way to Anfield.
Is Etitike, Isak’s replacement? Or is he potentially playing up top, either alongside or instead of Alex when our Swedish striker is being rested?
Some say it would be a disaster if Alexander Isak was allowed to leave Newcastle United. Especially if he went to one of our rivals in this country, perhaps less so if he went back to Spain to a Real Madrid or a Barcelona.
In 1996, Newcastle United broke the then world transfer record by paying £15 million for a certain sheet metal worker’s son. Alan Shearer was bought to partner Les Ferdinand, a prolific striker himself, the 29 goals he’d scored in the previous campaign underlining his worth.
Fast forward nearly thirty years. In the days of PSR and accounting red tape, is it possible to have both Alexander Isak and Hugo Etitike leading the line at St James Park, as was the case when Sir Les and big Al did it so well as NUFC finished runners up for a second consecutive season?
Alexander Isak scored the winner on that glorious day in March when his shot from a Murphy knock down beat Caoimhin Kelleher in the Liverpool goal to make it 2-0. For that single act alone, I wouldn’t begrudge him anything. Even if he was to depart for Anfield.
Newcastle United could receive upwards of £150 million if Alexander Isak did leave.
That huge sum of money needs to be seen in a PSR context, meaning not just a Hugo Etitike to arrive on Tyneside, but potentially two or three others of the same calibre.
A footballer’s career is a short one. Alexander Isak is already immortal in these parts because of his winning goal in the League Cup Final, and deep down, he knows we’re not going to win the Premier League or the Champions League next season.
If he joined Liverpool, as unpopular as I will be for daring to bring it up, he could win both.
