In a recent interview with Action Network (via The Daily Star), Eric Wynalda urged Newcastle United to move in for Arsenal forward Folarin Balogun. Wynalda said,

“I would like to see Folarin Balogun remain in the Premier League. He is a talented player with a lot of potential, and I think he would be a good fit for a number of clubs in the league.

“Newcastle United, Aston Villa, Brighton & Hove Albion, Crystal Palace are all clubs that are looking to strengthen their attacking options, and they would all be able to offer Balogun regular playing time. I think it would be good for Balogun to stay in the Premier League.

“It is the best league in the world, and it would give him the opportunity to test himself against the best players in the world. It would also give him the chance to play in the Champions League, which is a dream for many young players.”

Balogun’s Impressive Loan Spell In French Football

Balogun had a fruitful loan spell at Stade Rennais in the previous campaign when he put in a series of eye-catching performances as the spearhead of their attack. The American sensation banged in 22 goals and grabbed three assists in 39 matches for the French outfit last season in multiple competitions.

The 22-year-old gave a good account of himself in the final third based on his average of 3.5 shots, 1.0 key passes and 0.9 dribbles per game in Ligue 1. However, he lacked quality when distributing the ball in the opponent’s half based on his pass success rate of 72.5% in the French first division (stats via whoscored).

Should Newcastle United Boss Eddie Howe Get Balogun On Board?

Balogun can create a yard of space for himself to get a few shots in at goal. He proved his worth as a decent finisher in front of the opposition goal last season. The American striker has got the eye to play a few killer passes in the final third and is a good dribbler with the ball as well.

Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe‘s attack. He could even help the Magpies challenge across all fronts in the upcoming campaign.

All in all, the Tyneside club would be wise to get Balogun on board before the end of this summer transfer window.
