Newcastle United will look to bounce back to winning ways when they take on Nottingham Forest in the Premier League on Sunday.
Ahead of the match, Eddie Howe confirmed on Friday that Sven Botman will definitely miss the Premier League clash against Forest.
The 25-year-old Magpies defender is out with a knee injury, and he won’t be ready to face Forest. Howe says it will need a miracle for him to be able to feature this weekend, but there is no fresh injury set-back and the defender is progressing well.
Likewise, Joelinton is currently absent due to a knee injury. Howe has confirmed that the Brazilian is pushing to get into the side, and Newcastle are waiting for the right moment to use him.
“I don’t think he will be fit and available for this weekend,” said the Newcastle boss.
“We are going to have to see how things stand over the weekend for next week. That is bar a miracle recovery for this weekend.
“He is making progress but just not as quickly as we wanted him to. He is very much on track, just not quite ready.”
Newcastle are in the race for a top-four finish this season. The Magpies will be very disappointed with the manner they lost against Manchester City last week.
City completely dominated the game and won 4-0 at the Etihad Stadium.
Newcastle are in good form at the moment, especially at St James’ Park, and the fixture against Forest promises to be a cracking contest.
Howe admits that the Magpies players are looking for a big response, and they will learn from the mistakes made in the previous game.
