In a recent report, The Times (subscription required) stated that Newcastle United are showing interest in Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay this summer. It has been mentioned that the Magpies are eyeing a move for the Scotland international.

McTominay’s Recent Form In The Premier League

McTominay had a tough campaign with the Red Devils recently but managed to produce a handful of battling displays at the heart of their midfield. The Lancaster-born midfield ace ended last season with two goals and one assist to his name, having played 37 matches in various competitions.

Is McTominay The Right Fit For Newcastle United Boss Eddie Howe?

McTominay is a tough-tackling midfielder who can be a bit reckless with his challenges but knows how to win the ball back for his team at the centre of the park. He usually clears the danger when at risk of being caught out at the back and can make some driving runs with the ball. McTominay can take care of the ball well in midfield and doesn’t shy away from having a few lively moments in the final third.

However, the Scottish workhorse needs to add more goals and assists to his game if he wants to taste success at the highest level.

Newcastle can definitely benefit from acquiring McTominay’s services as he will enhance the quality of Eddie Howe‘s midfield department. He has got a lot of experience in the Premier League and won’t take much time settling into life at St. James’ Park if the Magpies can get him on board during this summer transfer window. The Scottish talent will also increase competition for places within Newcastle’s match-day squad.

At 25, McTominay is about to enter the peak stage of his playing career soon. Therefore, he will be a good fit for the Tyneside outfit as he could play a key role for them in the coming seasons.
