In a recent post on X, renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano stated that Newcastle United remain keen on signing Eintracht Frankfurt talent Hugo Ekitike. It has been mentioned that the Magpies are eyeing a move to bring the French forward to St. James’ Park this summer.
The Reims-born striker enjoyed a decent campaign at the French club as he put in a string of impressive displays for them in the final third. Ekitike banged in 22 goals and grabbed 12 assists in 48 matches for Eintracht Frankfurt last season in all competitions.
The 23-year-old led the line well and deserves credit for averaging 4.0 shots per 90 minutes in the Bundesliga. He kept 38.6% of his attempts on target. Ekitike even distributed possession relatively well in the opponent’s half, as evidenced by his pass success rate of 75.5% in the German first division (stats via fbref.com).
Ekitike is under contract at the German club until the summer of 2029. Therefore, the Magpies would have to make a big offer if they are serious about recruiting the French striker this off-season.

Ekitike excels at finding some space for himself to get some strikes in at goal. He has got the eye to play some decisive passes on the offensive end of the field. Standing at 1.90m, Ekitike can use his strong frame to win a few 50-50 aerial duels.
The French sensation is even quite clever with his movements in and around the opponent’s penalty area. He has been a consistent goalscorer in the Bundesliga but there are some concerns over whether he would be able to handle the physical side and high intensity of the Premier League if Newcastle manage to snap him up this summer.
Ekitike would inject more firepower into Eddie Howe’s attacking department. He could even go on to form a productive partnership with Alexander Isak at the Tyneside club.
At 23, Ekitike has his peak years ahead of him which makes him a decent choice for the Magpies to consider in this summer transfer window. However, Howe would need to give him some time before he can get the best out of the talented striker at St. James’ Park.
