The Newcastle United owner was interviewed in Monaco last night.

This happened after the Champions League draw, which gives Newcastle United home matches against Barcelona, Benfica, PSV Eindhoven and Athletic Bilbao, plus trips to Marseille, PSG, Union Saint-Gilloise and Bayer Leverkusen.

This means United face seven clubs they have previously already met in European competition, with only Union Saint-Gilloise a totally new opponent.

Jamie Reuben speaking to TNT Sports after the Champions League draw – 28 August 2025:

“You play five former European champions…what’s your reaction to the draw?”

Jamie Reuben:

“Some very big teams, as you say, five former champions.

“So we are in illustrious company but we are looking forward it and some great fixtures ahead.”

“And as if the Newcastle fans needed anything to get even more up for being back in the Champions League, PSG, which is one of the club’s greatest nights just a couple of years ago, and Barcelona back in 1997, they will be absolutely, well…delighted, I would imagine?”

Jamie Reuben:

“Yeah, (PSG) not one of the club’s greatest nights ever, it was one of my greatest nights ever.

“I was there and there was an unbelievable performance, our first home game back in the Champions League for so many years and so let’s hope we can give that a repeat.”

Interviewer:

“I’m sure that you would have been one of the teams that most clubs wanted to avoid in pot four, how much are you looking forward to getting your teeth into this and showing the rest of Europe what Newcastle United can do?”

Jamie Reuben:

“Well firstly, we take that as a compliment that people don’t like to come to St James’ Park, we have turned it into a fortress in recent years.

“Some great fixtures there

“Some great fixtures there, we are looking forward to being in the Champions League, it is always a special atmosphere on Champions League nights at St James’ Park, so I hope we will be up for the occasion.”

Interviewer:

“Just a couple of games into the season, what have you made of the start to the campaign?”

Jamie Reuben:

“I think we have have been really good. I think we played really well.

“I think we deserved more points than we have got so far but in both games I thought there were good signs of the strength of the team and the determination of the team as well.

“So I am looking forward to the rest of the campaign.”

“What message do you have for the fans now, particularly the ones who are invested in off the field matters (in the transfer market)?”

Jamie Reuben:

“Well they should rest assured we are working hard.

“We have worked hard all summer to make sure that the team is in the best possible condition to compete at the highest levels of football.

“That is what we always want.

“We have worked hard and will continue working very hard up until the last seconds (of the transfer window) to make sure the team is in tip-top shape for the campaign ahead.”

Roughly around the time Jamie Reuben was being interviewed by TNT Sports, news was breaking in the media that Newcastle United had finally made a striker breakthrough, with German international striker Nick Woltemade now set to sign for United for a club record fee.
