For those who claim this match was a disgrace etc etc for flying halfway around the world (unlike all those other friendlies that have been played season after season by other Premier League clubs) and the damage it does to the environment (unlike all those other flights that operate day after day), well, the locals clearly didn’t see it that way.

Indeed, plenty of Newcastle United fans living in Australia and New Zealand, saying pre-match this would have be the first time they’d see an NUFC match in the flesh.

I think a bit better for the environment two squads flying around the world, as opposed to almost 80,000 fans doing the same…

James Maddison took advantage of no VAR and not too observant match officials to control Nick Pope’s clearance with his hand, to then open the scoring after just half an hour.

Newcastle equalised before the break when Jacob Murphy saw his shot saved but Alexander Isak knocked in the rebound.

No more goals and the final whilst saw nine of ten penalties scored in the shootout.

Newcastle keeper Mark Gillespie saved the first Tottenham penalty and Harrison Ashby getting the decisive winning spot-kick.

The two teams kicked off less than 72 hours after their final PL matches and both sides made numerous changes throughout the game.

Joe White, Ben Parkinson, Amadou Diallo and Garang Kuol were the other four to convert their penalties (United also won on penalties this season at Blackburn in the FA Cup).
