Newcastle United are leading the race to snap up Tanguy Ndombele from Tottenham Hotspur, per Media Foot.

The midfielder has largely endured a torrid time in north London since his move from Lyon and could be set for a permanent exit having spent the second half of last season on loan at the aforementioned Ligue 1 outfit.

Speaking in July, the 25-year-old revealed that it was possible for him to remain happy at Tottenham although he did also state that he was not going to put any undue pressure on himself.

“Yes, I think it’s possible to be happy at Tottenham,” Ndombele told Media Carre (h/t Sport Witness).

“Regardless of where you can go, you can be happy or unhappy.

“We’ll see how things go during pre-season but I’m not putting any more pressure on myself than that.”

Ndombele was left out of Antonio Conte’s squad for Tottenham’s pre-season tour in South Korea last month, all but confirming the Lilywhites’ intention to part ways with him this summer.

Having acquired the services of Rodrigo Bentancur and Yves Bissouma in the last two transfer windows, it is no surprise that Spurs are looking to offload the likes of Ndombele and Harry Winks with the former currently one of the highest earners at the club.

While Newcastle now appear to be his most likely destination, Villarreal have also been credited with an interest in Ndombele.

However, the La Liga outfit may be put off by Tottenham’s reported asking price of €50 million as they seek to minimise their losses on a man they paid €65m to land three years ago.

With the FIFA World Cup on the horizon, a move away from London hands Ndombele his best shot at cracking Didier Deschamps’ plans for the France national team in November’s global event.
