According to a recent report by The Daily Mail, Newcastle United have identified Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson as a top summer target. The same source has also stated that the Magpies boss Steve Bruce is trying to add some British talent to his squad with the Cherries forward considered as a ‘favoured but expensive’ option for him this summer.

Wilson’s Frustrations At The South Coast Of England Last Season

Wilson endured a lacklustre season at the Vitality Stadium as he failed to save his club’s top-flight status for another season. Bournemouth were relegated on the final day of this Premier League campaign despite the English striker’s contributions in inspiring a brilliant 3-1 win over Everton at Goodison Park.

The 28-year-old banged in nine goals and provided three assists in 39 matches for the Cherries last season in all competitions. His failure to get into the double figures mark in terms of goal-scoring might have been one of the many reasons why Eddie Howe’s side were relegated to the EFL Championship last month.

The Coventry-born attacker has earned four senior caps for the English national team, registering one goal for his country in the process. Maybe a summer switch back to the Premier League could help him secure more game time for Gareth Southgate’s England team in the coming years.

What Will The Four-Time England International Bring To The Table?

Wilson can use his quickness and football IQ to make some clever runs in behind the last line of the opposition defence. He is usually a prolific finisher in the attacking third and can even create a few decent openings for his teammates in and around the opposition penalty box. The English marksman is a Premier League tested goal-getter which makes him an attractive option for any top-flight club including Newcastle.

Will Wilson Be A Good Choice For The Magpies?

Wilson will not only add more pace and goals to Steve Bruce’s attack but also improve the overall depth of his squad. Plus, he could serve as a significant upgrade over Joelinton, Dwight Gayle and Andy Carroll at St. James’ Park in the coming seasons.

A striker of Wilson’s proven goal-scoring record will undeniably be an excellent choice for the Magpies before the start of the new campaign. He has the potential to perform a productive attacking partnership with Miguel Almiron, Allan Saint-Maximin and Matt Ritchie, so it makes sense for Bruce to orchestrate a move to bring him to Tyneside this summer.

At 28, Wilson still has a few good years left in his locker which Newcastle can benefit from if Bruce manages to get the best out of him in the Premier League next season. All in all, the Bournemouth star will be a useful addition to the Magpies squad and could even help them compete for some silverware in the years to come.
