According to a report from Sky Sports, Newcastle United have reached an agreement with Everton over Anthony Gordon’s transfer fee. It is understood that the Magpies are ready to offer £45 million for the youngster as he gets ready to undergo a medical in the coming days. This makes him Newcastle’s second highest transfer, behind £60m Alexander Isak.

Gordon’s Campaign For Everton This Season

Gordon had a decent campaign last season as he saved the Toffees from relegation in the final weeks, producing several influential displays in the final third. However, the youngster is off to a slow start this season as he has only managed to score three goals over 14 appearances so far.

The Liverpool-born sensation has only averaged 1.6 shots, 0.6 key passes and 0.6 dribbles per game in the Premier League and has barely managed to distribute the ball proficiently after completing 77.2% of his attempted passes in the English top flight (stats via whoscored).

What Will He Bring To Newcastle United?

Gordon excels at getting past defenders and doesn’t mind taking a shot at the goal from a distance. He can make some dangerous runs down the left flank creating a few meaningful chances in the final third. The youngster can also set up his teammates in front of the goal by making a few decisive passes down the middle.

The 21-year-old has the potential to play at a high level despite a drop in his form in the past few weeks. He has earned a regular starting place in the left-wing position for the Merseyside club and is quite happy with the amount of football coming his way. So we can expect him to add more quality to Eddie Howe’s attacking department and his arrival would definitely spark more competition in the match day squad.

Gordon could earn a regular place at the Tyneside club if he continues developing his game under Howe’s tutelage and we could see him dominate the final third in the foreseeable future if he plays with discipline, so the Magpies have done well to reach an agreement with the Toffees before the deadline day next week.
