Newcastle United have now made history.

The Premier League first kicked off in August 1992 but that season NUFC were in the second tier.

Thankfully, Kevin Keegan had arrived to save us, not for the first or last time, with United going up as champions that 1992/93 campaign, meaning NUFC would play in the second season of the Premier League era.

So 32 years later, Newcastle United creating this little bit of Premier League history on Saturday.

The 5-1 victory means that Newcastle United had managed a 13-1 aggregate of victories this season against Sheffield United. The first ever time in the Premier League era that one team has scored 13 goals across their two fixtures against another club.

A few other new Newcastle United stats to take into consideration…

Newcastle United have now scored 48 goals in the Premier League at home this season, more than any other PL club. Aston Villa next highest with 45, then next highest are a few teams with 43. Two or more against Brighton in the final PL home game would bring up a half century of Premier League St James’ Park home goals for Eddie Howe’s team.

In the top five European leagues (Bundesliga, La Liga, Ligue 1, Premier League, Serie A), only Bayern Munich (51) have (so far) scored more goals at home this season than Newcastle in the league.

Alexander Isak has scored in each of his past seven Premier League games at St James’ Park. Only Alan Shearer (15 in 1996-97) and Andy Cole (eight in 1993-94) netting in more consecutive home appearances for NUFC in the Premier League. Isak can go level with Cole if scoring one or more against Brighton on 11 May.

Only Chelsea’s Cole Palmer has had more Premier League direct goal involvements (17)in home matches this season (so far) than Anthony Gordon (16), the NUFC winger scoring nine and getting seven assists.

In the 2003/04 season, Alan Shearer scored 22 Premier League goals. Since then nobody has managed 19+ until now, Alexander Isak scoring twice on Saturday to take him to 19 with four games still remaining.

In all competitions, Newcastle United have now scored three or more goals in a match this season on 15 occasions, including on nine occasions scoring nine or more.

With now 91 goals in all competitions, Eddie Howe’s team need another nine goals in the remaining four matches to reach a century of goals for the season.
